Camp Program Descriptions:
Robotics Discovery: Ages 8-14
Take a robotics journey in either our Robotics Discovery or Robotics Exploration camps which complement each other. Our teachers will guide your child through the initial discovery stages or robotics, including step-by-step programming instruction and guided activities. After building their LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robot from scratch, your child will program their robot to react to various sensory inputs, such as touch, sound and light. Your child’s learning process will be highlighted with our popular Sumo Battle Bot Challenge. Logic, technology and creativity are combined to provide your child with hours of learning fun! Camps can be taken more than once as new activities are provided for returning students.
Robotics Exploration: Ages 8-14
Take a robotics journey in either our Robotics Discovery or Robotics Exploration camps which complement each other. Students with prior robotics experience can explore more with opportunities to challenge themselves using their previous LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT knowledge. Beginners will receive hands-on programming instruction. Creative robot construction, team-oriented challenges, variations of input sensors (such as dual-switch programming), and the Ultimate Battle Bot challenge will stimulate your child’s imagination while continuing to open doors in their technological futures. Camps can be taken more than once as new activities are provided for returning students.
Robotics Innovations: Ages 8-14
This camp is intended for students with previous LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robotics experience. The advanced challenges are more thought and imagination provoking, with an emphasis on creative problem-solving and constructing more elaborate robot configurations. Our Innovations curriculum takes your child further along the path of technological excellence by introducing new concepts, such as Bluetooth-based programming. Our teachers will be on hand to provide assistance with each student’s robot creation, as well as to guide them through the programming essentials to make your child’s tech creation come to life!
Robotics Master: Ages 8-14
The ultimate in robotics, our Robotics Master camp is strictly intended for those with previous LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT experience. Our unique camp is geared around those with desire to get the most out of their robotics skills by providing an opportunity for your child to combine a higher knowledge of logical problem-solving with creative robot configurations and complex programming. Campers will appreciate the increased level of independent participation while benefitting from the guidance and assistance of our highly trained instructors. The Bluetooth Battle Bot challenge will surely be the highlight of every camper’s summer!
Game Creation: Ages 8-14
Every kid loves playing video games. Your child can create their very own computer vide game from the ground up! Utilizing GameMaker software, our teachers will guide your child through every step of developing a customized functional game, including drag-and-drop programming, designing multiple levels and adding features of a real arcade-style video game. This camp is perfect for beginners, as well as for returning students who want to add on to their previously created game or create a new one. At the end of camp, your child will take home a CD with their game, the GameMaker software and our game-making resources.
Advanced GameMaker: Ages 8-14
For those with previous GameMaker experience. Our teachers will take your child further into the world of video game design through more advanced techniques, such as utilizing program scripting and global variables, customizing characters via digital photo-editing software and designing complex, multi-tiered games. The games created in our advanced camp are specially designed to be open-ended so that your child may expand upon them at home. At the end of camp, your child will take home a CD with their game, the GameMaker software and our game-making resources. Your child will have developed a new-found knowledge and appreciation of what goes into game development, including math, logic and creative storytelling.
GameMaker Master: Ages 8-14
For those with previous GameMaker experience, our GameMaker Master camp will bring out the best in your child’s imagination and programming skills. Campers will be given the opportunity to create their own computer game without any boundaries or limitations. In addition to the guidance provided by our instructors, such as with program scripting and game design considerations. Your child will be taught how to utilize photo-editing software to create their own customized, animated game characters. At the end of camp, your child will take home a CD with their game, the GameMaker software and our game-making resources.
Exploring Bits, Bytes & Bots: Ages 8-14
This camp is the perfect introduction to Bits, Bytes & Bots’ offerings, providing a taste of 3 different areas. Students will learn how to make stop-motion animated movies, build and program LEGO® Mindstorms® robots and create their own computer game using GameMaker software. Students will bring home a CD with their movie and game projects, the GameMaker software and our game-making resources.
Make a Movie: Ages 8-14
Lights…Camera…Action! Children’s dream of having their favorite LEGO® characters come to life can be a reality in our Movie Making camp. Utilizing stop-motion animation and digital post-production editing, your child will produce LEGO® movies much like the ones viewed on YouTube. Students will learn about developing creative storytelling techniques, incorporating visual and audio special effects, and even voice acting to create a true overall movie experience to bring home on a CD to share with the world!
Bits, Bytes & Beyond: Ages 6-7
Technology knows no age limit and our “Bits, Bytes & Beyond” curriculum will help lead the way for our younger age group. Our specially designed camps are formulated to meet the needs of younger children while ensuring that the learning process is fun and rewarding. The activities focus on introductory basic robotics using the LEGO® WeDo® set and LEGO® Movie Making, with an emphasis on our teachers providing extra hands-on assistance throughout the camps for the younger campers.
